About Zakuro Rising

On 12 November, RIEKO partners with member’s club STÜCK for a multidisciplinary ceremony for the release of her experimental pop meets avant-classical sophomore EP, Zakuro – Japanese for “pomegranate,” a symbol for a Buddhist demon-turned-deity who transforms to protect the mothers and progeny of the earth.

RIEKO will perform Zakuro live, alongside DJ sets by her close collaborator and EP co-producer, electronic artist Yraki.

The evening will feature an exhibition of all of the artists who have contributed to her mythological, audio-visual world building for this EP, including spatial design and wearable artefacts by HYDRA (anna gloria flores), light paintings by Lucy Feng in collaboration with HYDRA, and art films serving as music videos by Jesse May Fisher and Detroit Law.

The programme will open with SEANCES by RIEKO, the artist’s signature guided meditation workshop blending improvised sound, reiki, and automatic writing – accompanied by a crystal sound bath by the artist’s mother. The evening will also feature a special guest appearance by HEZEN of playbody, the club and design collective behind STÜCK.

Zakuro Rising is a fully immersive celebration of RIEKO’s four-track EP – enticing participants through sound, light, fruit, latex, ritual, and play.
