Tate Modern: Fruit to Flower

In this workshop commissioned by the Tate Modern, Whitfield leads participants through guided meditations, automatic writing, improvised performance choreography, and live soundscaping, with a screening of the resulting film showcased adjacent to the “Performer and Participant” exhibition in the Tate Modern Blavatnik Building.

The workshop is inspired by Pipilotti Rist’s film Lungenflügel, and focused on themes around fruits and flowers – primarily as metaphors for tenderness, resilience, and anticipatory grief in times of crisis. In line with Rist’s focus on non-human perspectives in the film, this workshop invites participants to express themselves through the vantage point of the fruits and flowers offered in the workshop.
